"When you walk down the street, you're not just passing by trees—you’re moving through the city's green memories."

Street trees do more than just decorate the city—they help cool urban areas, reducing the heat island effect. Their leaves absorb airborne pollutants, improving air quality and enhancing our living environment. They also provide vital habitats for birds and insects, maintaining ecological balance in the city. Meanwhile, old trees stand as living witnesses to urban transformation, carrying the memories and emotions of residents and becoming an integral part of the city's cultural identity.

About Museum of Avenue Trees

Motivation & Design Purpose
With the worsening urban heat island effect, street trees play a crucial role in cooling cities and improving the environment. This study presents Taipei’s street trees through books and visual guides, exploring their aesthetics and intrinsic value. Unlike traditional environmental campaigns, this project approaches the topic through the lens of beauty, using visual and ecological documentation to foster a deeper appreciation and understanding of these urban green companions.

Observation Classroom

This is your ecological art experiment!

When was the last time you truly observed the trees on the street? What shape are their leaves? Is their bark smooth or rough? How do their shadows shift when the wind blows?

Through "deconstructive observation" and "reconstructive recording," this project invites you to reconnect with street trees and transform everyday streets into an ecological art museum. Participants can freely select and combine elements to create unique tree artworks, ultimately contributing to a collective "Street Tree Gallery."

Now, it's your turn to create your own street tree!

We actively invite the public to participate in this hands-on experience, encouraging a renewed appreciation for the details of nature. This is a practice in perception and observation—a way to reconnect with the natural world. Through direct engagement, we hope to bring street trees out of the background and into everyday awareness, making them a part of our cultural memory.

Visual Design and Concept

Through grid design and green map layers, symbolizing the integration of urban planning and the natural environment, this work showcases how street trees play an important role in urban spaces. Black-and-white photos and close-up shots of trees from different angles illustrate the growth process of street trees and their impact on the city, conveying the significance of the environment and urging people to cherish these beautiful urban green resources.

The cover features a polygonal design, symbolizing the structure and diversity of trees. Shapes, textures, and colors are combined to enhance dimensionality. The binding is based on a metal clip, complemented by a tied tree branch, emphasizing flexibility and adaptability. Pages can be added or removed, much like tree rings accumulating knowledge, blending industrial design with the beauty of nature.
